Shame on you Sun Chronicle

One of the reasons I started Milliecat.com was to honor the memory of the late great Millie Montgomery.  The other reason was to dispel the myth that black cats are bad luck.  See some of my previous posts and pics for proof.

Now that Friday the 13th is upon us people will be dusting off their non-sensical superstitions.  It’s one thing to be superstitious about a date on the calendar.  I don’t think shelters will be filling up with unwanted 13s cut out of calendars anytime soon.  It’s a rather harmless superstition.  So I was rather upset when my wife emailed me a link to an article posted on the website of our local newspaper.

This cat is NOT bad luck

What kills me is that the article leads off with a picture of a black cat, in of all places, a shelter.  Then it concludes the article with the line “…be sure to steer clear of black cats.”

This is the kind of irresponsible thinking that leads to black cats remaining in shelters.  This is also bad news for all cats, since every space occupied by a black cat is one less space for the so-called “more desirable” cats.

My message to the Sun Chronicle: Next time, think before you publish such an irresponsible article.
